Over the past two decades SMW Engineering (SMW) has become the world-leading manufacturer of large magnesium forgings, particularly wheels. SMW proprietary closed-die net-shape forging process (10,000 – 15,000 t hydraulic force) ensures the desired metal flow with directional fiber positioning with deeper deformation for optimal grain structure. This results in superior metallurgical characteristics and improved mechanical properties (incl. strength and fatigue characteristics). SMW is the manufacturer of choice for the global leaders, the most reputable brands such as Brembo, OZ, BBS and others. All Ducati motorcycles’ magnesium wheels are forged by SMW, as are most teams’ MotoGP wheels and some F1 teams’ wheels.
